Five Frames
A little reflection, a little inspiration, and a few creative sparks to take with you this week.
Drawn to Contrast
It was the kind of sky you don’t plan for.
Layered, moody, full of tension and color.
Blue-gray storm clouds pressing in,
but beneath them, something warmer tried to hold its place.
A quiet resistance, soft and glowing.
It wasn’t dramatic, but it felt alive.
Like the sky was thinking through something.
I didn’t have to overanalyze it.
It was full of contrast - light and dark, stillness and movement.
That quiet contrast said more than words could.
That’s the pull: when something looks exactly like how a moment feels.
Prompt of the Week: Capture the Passage of Time
Technique: Try using long exposure to blur movement, take a series of sequential shots, or frame subjects in motion, like a person walking, clouds drifting, or water flowing.
These approaches reveal what a single frozen moment can’t.
Why it works: Time adds story. It brings rhythm, contrast, and change.
By capturing the in-between, you invite the viewer to imagine what came before and what comes next.
Try this: Photograph a melting patch of ice, the steady shuffle of a crowd, or clouds shifting across the sky.
If you're feeling adventurous, return to the same spot at different times of day to show subtle or dramatic changes.
IG Post I’ve Been Sitting With
Saw this on Instagram recently, and it stuck with me. I forgot to save the account for credit, but the message is worth sharing.
“The camera is just a tool.
Creativity comes from within–your soul, your knowledge, your vision. A new camera won’t make you better, but it might inspire you to shoot more, see more, create more.
In the end, it’s not the gear. It’s you.”
Myth Buster
“You have to find your style before putting your work out there.”
The truth: Style isn’t something you find and then begin. It’s something that emerges as you do the work.
It forms through repetition, curiosity, and showing up—even when you’re unsure.
Waiting to discover your style before sharing your work is like waiting to feel strong before you start training.
You figure it out by doing.
And in doing, your voice starts to take shape.
What Most People Miss
What if the secret to creativity isn’t doing more…but seeing more?
We often think creativity comes from grand ideas or bold moves.
But what if it starts with something much simpler?
A longer pause.
A second look.
A willingness to see what others miss.
In this week’s blog post, I’m sharing a short reflection on one of my favorite creativity quotes - and how learning to look deeply can shift the way we create, notice, and move through the world.
